COVID-19 Response

Working to adapt training materials and implement remote training with WHO SEARO

The IMAI Alliance has worked with WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office (SEARO) as part of its COVID-19 response to adapt the training materials and WHO IMAI District Clinician Manual and to provide remote trainings to general clinicians (non-ICU) and national facilitators in Myanmar, Timor Leste, and Cox’s Bazaar (Bangladesh) as well as additional clinical webinars, and development and implementation of the SEARO IMAI oxygen supply/ecosystem survey. A SEARO-IMAI Alliance intercountry training for national trainers from 6 countries is ongoing.

The key tools available for clinical and infection prevention and control (IPC) training during the COVID-19 pandemic are the: Quick Check algorithm wallchart and training manual (COVID-19 screening, triage by severity, assessment, and emergency treatments); Management of the severely ill patient with severe respiratory distress and septic shock; and Clinician’s role in disease surveillance and response (which covers recognizing and reporting priority diseases with epidemic potential, differential diagnosis, standard case definitions, and IPC for the clinician). These WHO SEARO-adapted tools are consistent throughout with WHO evidence-based guidelines and are regularly updated to keep abreast with changing COVID-19 recommendations.

Vision

The vision of the IMAI-IMCI Alliance is to achieve universal access to quality health care in resource-limited settings.

Mission

IMAI - the Integrated Management of Adolescent and Adult Illness - follows in the footsteps of IMCI (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness)  and IMPAC (Integrated Management of Pregnancy and Childbirth). Like the WHO IMCI and IMPAC, the IMAI tools simplify and operationalize WHO evidence-based guidelines to support their decentralized implementation at district hospitals, health centres, and in the community in limited-resource settings.

The mission of the IMAI Alliance is to work with partners to strengthen health systems in resource-limited settings by scaling up high quality health care through:
